Responsive Reading Psalm 23

Chaplain: The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want;

People: He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters;

Chaplain: He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

People: Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil; for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.

Chaplain: Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of my enemies; thou anointest my head with oil, my cup overflows.

People: Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Congregational Hymn "O God Our Help in Ages Past"

O God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come,
  our shelter from the stormy blast, and our eternal home.
Before the hills in order stood, or earth received her frame,
  from everlasting you are God to endless years the same.
A thousand ages in your sight, are like an evening gone,
  short as the watch that ends the night before the rising sun.
O God, our help in ages past, our help for yeras to come,
  remain our guard, while life shall last and our eternal home.

"High Flight"

by

John Gillespie Magee, Jr.

Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds--and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of--wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence, Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew,
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand and touched the face of God.
