The second AWACS Aircraft for Airborne Early Warning and Control plane has been delivered to TUSAS Aerospace Industries (TAI) facility in Ankara within the scope of the "Peace Eagle" program, one of the leading defense projects
The first plane was delivered to TAI facility on March 13rd, 2006 within the "Peace Eagle" program. Participating defense industry companies fulfill the system integration procedures of the planes in the facilities.
There will be four Awacs in total within the framework of the program carried out between Turkish Defense Industry Undersecretariat and U.S. Boeing company, Turkey will purchase four B737 type Airborne Early Warning and Control planes and a platform.
The project will also provide job capacity (worth of 195 million USD) to Turkish Defense Industry companies Aselsan, Havelsan Technologies Radar, Mikes, Selex, TAI and THY. TAI has around 49 million USD share in the project. Following the delivery of the first plane in 2007, integration procedures of the first 3 planes would take place in TAI facilities in Ankara.
Turkish Airlines,THY, which is in the project, will brief the Air Forces about maintenance and pilot training of AWACS planes.
