Amin de Carvalho Aur, 57, of Norman, Oklahoma, died Sunday, April 28, 2013 at his home. He was born September 18, 1955 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, son of Dr. Rhomes (John) Aur and Celina de Carvalho Aur. Amin was a graduate of White Station High School (Memphis, TN), Class of 1974, and earned a B.S in Aerospace Engineering from Auburn University and M.S. in Public Administration from Central Michigan University. Upon graduating from Auburn, he married his high school sweetheart, Elizabeth (Betsy) Anderson on October 20, 1979 in Corinth, MS. Amin retired from the United States Air Force with the rank of Major and was a pilot for Southwest Airlines from 2003-12. He retired from Southwest Airlines after being diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease.” He is survived by: wife Elizabeth Anderson Aur; son, Matthew Aur (Ashley); daughters, Catherine Aur and Caroline Aur, all of Norman, OK; mother, Celina Aur of Memphis, TN; brothers, Rhomes Aur (Tina) of Memphis; Didier Aur (Kelley) of Jefferson City, MO; Paulo Aur (Jeanne) of Memphis; sister, Monica Aur of Chattanooga, TN; numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his father, Rhomes Aur. A memorial service honoring the life of Amin Aur will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 4th at Canale Funeral Directors, 2700 Union Avenue Extended, Memphis, TN 38112. Expressions of sympathy can be made to the ALS Foundation in the name of "Team Amin" or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital .
