Lewis Herbert Tew, III died on Saturday, March 28, 2015, in Oklahoma City, OK. He was born on May 3, 1923, son of Lewis Herbert Tew, Jr. & Kathryn Eleanor Harris, in Mulhall, OK. His father worked for the railroad in Hartshorne, OK and relocated the family to Minnesota when Lewis, III was three years old. Lewis, III attended school in Backus, MN graduating from high school in 1939. In 1942, Lewis, III joined the Army Air Corps and continued with the newly formed United States Air Force (USAF) in 1947. He served in World War II, Korea, and with the Air Defense Command from 1956 to 1970 in Europe and Alaska. Over his 29 years in the USAF, he was a pilot and flew B-24's, B-26's, C-119's, and the RC-121 aircraft. He retired in 1970 with many decorations and distinguished service awards. Following his retirement from the USAF, he attended Oklahoma City University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. Thereafter, he worked for the State Banking Commission, serving as a bank examiner for the State of Oklahoma until his retirement in 1988. Lt. Col Tew enjoyed skeet shooting and playing bridge; he volunteered at Tinker Air Force Base hospital and was a member of Quail Creek Baptist Church, Oklahoma City. He is survived by his wife, Norma Tew, of the home; his daughter, Kathryn Allison Tew Rickey, of New York; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
