Well the 25th AWACS Anniversary came off quite well. It was held 27 - 30 June, 2002. For a list of the events, go to http://www.awacs25.org">the 25th Anniversary site (hosted by AEWA.Org) The banquet was held on the 29th at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum (formerly the Cowboy Hall of Fame). The USAF Chief of Staff was the keynote speaker and he expressed a lot of praise for AWACS (both past and present). All toll it was very well done and enjoyed by all.

For those of you who attended both the 20th and the 25th anniversary celebrations, there was a marked difference between the two events. This year's was more formal, and a bit stuffy in comparison to the 20th. This isn't a negative, just an oservation. I think it was a reflection of the difference between the commanders who represented the wing on each occasion. The 20th was more fun and light hearted, the 25th a bit more somber. Perhaps this year's event was more a reflection of the past as well as a look forward. The 20th was just a grand party while memorializing the crew of Yukla 27, which was done with dignity and class. Both occasions were representative of where we were at the time. General Jumper was a superb speaker though, and I thought really set the tone for where the USAF is now, and where its going.

I agree with what Hilander said. At first I thought the notion of mess dress and dress blues for active duty was going to make for a stuffy affair. But Gen Jumper did set the tone and gave a great keynote speach. That plus the Cowboy Hall of Fame is a class act for large crowds (850+). The 25th Anniversary Team did a great job bringing all these events together and everyone is expecting the 30th Anniverary to be even better. Cya in 2007 B)
