A plane captain uses lighted wands to direct the pilot of an E-2C Hawkeye on board the USS Enterprise (CVN 65) on Oct. 7, 2001, during Operation Enduring Freedom. The Enterprise is launching aircraft for missions against al Qaeda terrorist training camps and military installations of the Taliban regime in Afghanistan. The carefully targeted actions are designed to disrupt the use of Afghanistan as a base for terrorist operations and to attack the military capability of the Taliban regime. DoD photo by Petty Officer 3rd Class Stefanie A. Schap, U.S. Navy. (Released)
