RAAF E-7A Deployed to Middle East

Post by wildbill » Sun Sep 13, 2015 1:09 pm

The E-7A Wedgetail departs for a mission.

At the request of the Iraqi Government, Operation OKRA's RAAF Air Task Group (ATG) is operating within a US-led international coalition assembled to disrupt and degrade Da'esh (ISIL) operations. The ATG comprises six RAAF F/A-18 Hornets, an E-7A Wedgetail Airborne Early Warning and Control aircraft and a KC-30A Multi-Role Tanker Transport aircraft.

Operation OKRA is the Australian Defence Force's contribution to the international effort to combat the Daesh (also known as ISIL) terrorist threat in Iraq. Australia's contribution is being closely coordinated with the Iraqi government, Gulf nations and a broad coalition of international partners.

About 900 ADF personnel have deployed to the Middle East in support of Operation OKRA. These personnel make up the Air Task Group (ATG), the Special Operations Task Group (SOTG) and Task Group Taji (TG Taji).

Approximately 400 personnel have been assigned to the ATG, approximately 200 personnel are assigned to the SOTG and approximately 300 personnel are assigned to TG Taji.
